Dear leaders in the faith community,

Please join us in an effort to keep our communities safer. The Oklahomans for Business & Property Owner's Rights is a coalition that was formed in order to bring community leaders together who have a common interest in stopping dangerous gun legislation from passing in the Oklahoma Legislature. The coalition includes leaders from the chambers of commerce, Oklahoma Municipal League, OKC Thunder, Oklahoma State Troopers Association, multiple public and private universities, multiple hospitals and medical associations, Oklahoma Transit Association, Oklahoma Bankers Association, Oklahoma Credit Union Association, Oklahoma Psychological Association, State Fair Park, and Remington Park, among others. Everytown for Gun Safety has partnered with the coalition to provide vital legislative information as well as support through our volunteers with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

At our last meeting, we discussed the need for representation from the faith community. I'm reaching out to all of you, inviting you to start attending the meetings and add your voice to common sense policies related to guns. There are bills being introduced this session that are targeted at places of worship and could affect you and your congregations.
As the OKC leader for Moms Demand Action, I can tell you that we're actively involved in fighting bad gun bills at the Capitol. For example, HB 2632 was debated in the House Judiciary Committee yesterday and was passed by a vote of 13-6. This bill would further expand our Stand Your Ground law to include any place of worship, without defining "place of worship." This is a dangerous and unnecessary bill. Several of our volunteers were present and were prepared with talking points to oppose the bill. We're committed to voicing our opposition to these types of bills as well as other legislation that threatens the safety of our communities.

If you're receiving this email, I will start forwarding the coalition emails to you. Once you attend a meeting, you can sign in and will receive emails directly from Mark VanLandingham who is from the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber and is the coalition organizer. Please forward this email to other leaders in the faith community who you think would be interested in joining the coalition. If you don't want to receive these emails, please let me know.
Thank you for caring about our communities.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Birch
